Went to the doc yesterday and expected to be out pretty quick with a shot in the back. Three hours later I had been poked, prodded, EKGed, X-rayed, drew blood and was told I could not take ibuprofin anymore.

Doc said a shot would only delay the inevitable and I am off to back surgery Monday, if the insurance says OK. No fusing. He hopes the disk repair will take care of things. MRI showed herniation at L5 that has almost totally pinched off the nerve. Which explains the rapidly weakening right leg. I also have arthritis, and a messed up ligament in the same area so things may not be as cut an dry as he hopes when he gets in there.:frown: A one night stay in the hospital and two weeks of not doing anything I guess, because he gave me more drooling pills.

The good thing is leg and other pain will go away immediately but the numbness and weakness will take tame. I will get back to normal in about 3 months or so.

Hope your surgery goes well. Many thoughts and prayers will be with you for a quick and complete recovery. As for nothing to do you could post some photos of your work. We would welcome seeing it.
 
Haynie- had that surgery about 24 years ago and have never regretted it. I went back to limited work in two weeks so don't count yourself out for so long yet. Take your meds, do your exercises and walk! In my prayers.

Mark sounds just like me, but my Cardiologist is standing in the way, I want to get it over with, not being able to walk or stand with out pain, or numbness would be a dream come true.
Good luck with the surgery, and do exactly like the Dr. says!!
Me I'm an idiot I have to try and push things, but the smart folks usually do come out better.
PT is also a big factor, just doing the PT with spinal ablation (burning the nerve endings) the PT has done a lot.
I'm blown out on both sides of L5; I'd like to go to Oklahoma City, there is a place there Spinal Laser Institute, that is supposed to be amazing, they just make a very tiny incision then insert this tube, and work with the laser inside to remove the part of the vertebrae and don't mess with the nerve, just burn away the problem areas, I've threatened to go, but my wife isn't sure, she loves my Cardio guy.

I've got a brother that's been through similar surgery one (and it 6 foot 9 inches it took a specialty doctor!), so I understand what you're going through. Thoughts and prayers for you!
 
Been there, done that (twice). Thought I was healed forever the first time. Life is "normal" now. Good luck with your surgery. You're in our prayers.
