Mounting a clamp-on work lamp?

I just purchased a couple of these for $6 each:

Walmart.com: Grip 37265 Clamp on Work Light with 6-Foot Cord: Tools

I'm wondering what folks use as a mounting bracket to clip onto when there isn't an overhead shelf or other overhang nearby. I need the light to be at least a foot or so over my sander and sharpeners. Thanks!

a couple of 2x4s nailed/screwed together crude and simple but works.

Before I had a shelf overhead to clamp onto i used a long pistol grip wood clamp. Clamped onto the bed of the lathe and clamped the lamp onto the clamp's ibeam that is vertical

I use a lamp with a flexible neck. It allows me to adjust the light to where ever I need/want it. I buy them here Work lamps - IKEA It is the Jansjo and costs $9.99. I remove the lamp from the base and screw it onto a 4" tension clamp and then I can just clamp it onto the lathe and the long neck allows me to adjust the light anywhere. If anyone is interested I can send you a picture. Let me know.

Possibly some way you could use a magnet as the base and build something from there?

This is my lathe setup and lighting. There is a magnetic strip under the shelf that holds bushings and hex wrenches.

Nope, No suntan, those are compact flourescent lights.

I once had a similar problem but solved it by installing a towel rack on the wall. It kept my paper towels handy and was a great mounting location for the lamp.
