Here are another couple of Aluminum pens.
Aluminium Blanks from John Gooden (johnnycnc), cheers John
First one with a arcylic centre band

And the next with a closed acrylic end and custom cap finial.

I am really startign to enjoy working with the aluminium blanks, they are a lot easier to work with than what i imagined them be like.
A bit harder to get a really good finish on them , and they do mark fairly easy.
But still worth doing

I received some from John(johnnycnc) and am anxious to try them. I would recommend getting his bushings too. I haven't tried them yet, but they are very well made.

Wow, I really like the acrylic ends, did you turn a tenon and press it in?

Mark, I think you are wrond on the black... It needs that see thru transparent amber stuff on the ends!! I might just give that a try myself~!

looking very good Andy, putting acrylic with aluminum must have been a challenge due to the hardness. You did great.

If you left out the plstic parts or avoided turning together - clear powdercoating would preserve the mirror finish. A brushed finish is another option you could consider - mirror polish is impossible to maintain...

I could have sworn that you said I could have the green one on Friday when you were here. [}] After you left, I searched in my garage for ages but couldn't find it.

I've seen both these cool pens so I can safely say;

Nice stuff,Andy.
I like the acrylic mix you did,
and the grip grooves,also.
Scubaman is right on about powdercoating.
If you can't do that,a clear lacquer is a
big improvement over nothing,(or just wax).

Nice job Andrew... I like the thought you obviously put into it. The mix of aluminum and acrylic is well balanced and the colors also work well together.

Thanks for all the comments, (apart from Skiprat, even though he is right they are a bugger to photograph well[])
Lee - Yes i did turn a tenon then just push fitted it.
I wil have to try some clear laquer on the next one i try, i have already got one in mind.
