I've been hunting for (stalking) a Delta 14-651 Mortiser for some time now. I finally found today on Craig's list at a decent price for a good used tool. Not new, but in very good shape and at $50, the price was right. Most of the used ones I've found in the past people wanted around $250.

I might even find a few ways to use it in pen making. We'll see how that turns out.

Set up a mortising bit with 5/8ths inch and another with 3/4 ....

Then, set up a board with guide pins that will lock to the base of the mortising machine in one way, and clamp it down.

Take some scrap hardwood stock that is 2 inches by 4 inches and 1 inch thick and double them up, stack them on the board and screw them in place.

Punch a square hole right through both hardwood boards to make a nice vertical square hole to hold your pen blanks .... (make another board and jig for other size)

Remove the mortising bit and just use the normal diameter bits for drilling your blanks.
