We all are pen turners here I too do alot of segmenting and I use a Delta contractors 10" saw for all my cutting. I just make jigs to do small cuts. You can use a router to do dovetails too. I made this pool table pen box using both my tablesaw and also router table. I had to make small mortise and tenon joinery as well as very thin pieces with compound angles and was fine with large size tools. The only thing a small mini saw will do is limit your kerf because of the thin blades so you save material but I can do any cut with a full size saw as a mini saw can. Just something to think about.I am a pen turner. I do a lot of segmenting. I want to go to the next Level in pen design. I am trying to put a dovetail of maple in a pen blank of walnut. Need something to make small cuts.
