Well, you guys talked me into it. I just ordered the Grizzly G0555 Bandsaw with the riser kit from Amazon. I have been wanting a bandsaw for about 3 years now and could not find any good deals on Craigslist. I bought it from Amazon so I hope I got a good deal.

Any tips or pointers on setting it up once I get it? I know a lot of you own this model. Anything special that you noticed when you set it up?

Also, which blade (size/teeth) would you recommend for resawing logs into blanks? I have cut a lot of blanks on my dad's Jet but going over there just got to be too much of a hassle (no heat in winter).

TIA

Wow, all those owners of this Grizzly Bandsaw and no tips, lol? How about some "please don't try this because of..." tips?

I do know how to use a bandsaw in general but was just wanting some tips for setting up this particular saw.:smile-big:

yes, I have this bandsaw..it is what it is..not weak, not strong..a very middle of the road saw IMHO does what I ask of it...tips?? Keep your fingers away from the blade and enjoy your new tool

Rob, didn't mean to ignore you but I wasn't sure if there was anything I could tell you. Assembling and working with my G0555 was my first and only experience with a bandsaw so I don't have much to compare to.

Assembly was easy enough. They tell you to get some help, but I managed to do it by myself and I'm no quarterback  Like most large pieces of equipment they arrive layered in grease, so make sure you have thinners on hand to clean up as you go along.

If you've worked with a bandsaw before you are probably familair with setting up the tracking, tension, guides etc. I believe the Grizzly is much the same as the Jet.

Oh, one word of advice. The blade that comes with the saw is not the best quality. But before you rush out and buy a bunch of blades make sure you get the longer ones if you're going to put the riser kit on. I got all excited and ordered a bunch of blades when I placed the order for the bandsaw. Then I had to wait a couple of months to wear them out before I could install the riser block and order the longer blades

Rob, I didn't see your post this morning. I bought my G0555 last year. I had only used a bandsaw one time before after being shown what to do and what not to do. The hardest part of the whole thing was getting it into the basement. The assembly was very easy and the directions explained everything including tensioning the blade. If I can do it anyone can. You won't have any problems.

Rob, re-read Keith's answer for my input. I managed to put mine together by myself, but having another body would be nice. Forget about your Manly Man card and read the directions!!

I don't have the riser, but likely will add it in the future.

I think you made a great purchase; I absolutely love my GO555.
