#22 - Old Olive Root (Robutacion). Walnut Cap/finial/perch.

As this was "in progress...". I was told..."dinner can be late, why not just finish it...:eek::eek:.."

Then...: "That's nice ... It's MINE!!"

(I've got more in the cabinet!!!!!).

Wow, that Olive root did come out really well, that is one of the woods that I invest a lot in, money, time and hard work and while I started to work on the big roots, some time ago (2 years), I'm only now in the position to make a few things with it and sell some, there are out of this world grain colours, just look at this piece that I have having in the oven all day 011.JPG , ready to cast with light and dark blue resin, that will be sliced into 5mm scales and to be sent to a blacksmith is Pakistan, commissioned by someone in the UK...!

I will be pouring the resin mix this evening and will see how it comes up. The star attraction of these scales will be the stress cracks on the Olive root, cast in blue, surrounded by the amazing grain colours....!

Anyway, back to Mark's work, you have a wife with good tastes, she knows a good thing when she sees it, huh...??:biggrin:

Keep them coming...!

Cheers
George

Couldn't agree more - nice inlay opportunities. Did this last week, but not happy with the finish - the knothole is very stubborn. Used Dr's Woodshop: (Oil/Wax/shellac)-NOT Pens Plus. I need to work on it more.

Very nice Mark, I'm sure you will find a way to get the finish as you like but, if you are not giving them the CA finish, why not to use some sanding sealer and then some spray varnish, that should work also...!

Just another possibility, that's all...!

I have cut a few other pieces of the Olive root I had drying in the work-shop shed and, I didn't managed that many blanks or pieces without the cracks but, I have some pieces cut to be cast, that will blow your socks off...!:wink::biggrin:

I have to get my fingers moving and list some so that you guys can also enjoy...!

Cheers
George
