I am looking for these logos found on hut products: http://www.hutproducts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=0450L

The thing is, I am looking for them under a half inch each with each branch of the military so one with Air Force insignia, one with Marine Corp, Army, and Navy. We are looking for these either in brass, gold, or however, we can get them.

The ones on hut are ok for pens as a novelty but they are going to go in gun grips for a customer so they have to be classy.

Another way to go is laser engraving.. If any of you could laser engrave them on the wood grips, that would be great too.

If anyone knows where I can find these or if any of our members could make them, the help is greatly appreciated..

Thanks in Advance
Brian

Laser engraving wouldn't be a problem. A bigger isssue is copyright. Some of the military branches (such as the Marine Corps) are accomodating about the use of their emblem, others (most notably the Navy) are not.

Eric,
What if we change it a little?
Would that be possible?

Ok.. was it just me that finds that as downright funny, since the MC is a component of the Navy!

Don't tell that to the Marines. The Marines think they are just a transportation service.

At least that's what my Marine friends say.

Funny! (sorry for the de-railing the conversation Brian)

I don't know any Marines closely .... My kid brother has been in the Air Force for 17 years now.

I hope you figure out an answer here - looking forward to seeing the end result! I know there is books of scroll saw military patterns... Maybe you get get approval to shrink and use those?

I thought it was rather ironic too. at one time, I sent requests to use the emblems of both. Both went to addresses at the Department of the Navy. The Marine Corps sent me back a nice letter of approval. The Navy wanted product samples, revenue projections, and licensing fees. I didn't pursue it further - the licensing process would have cost me more than I'd have made using the emblem.

I should also point out that while the US Military emblems may be used on consumer products (with prior approval), the seals may not. The seals are reserved (by law) for official use only.

Eric

I'm no lawyer, but my guess would be that if the image is close enough to the original to be recognizable, it's close enough to infringe.

Seeing your other post, I may also have to backpedal on my previous statement. 1/2 inch diameter is awfully small for the emblem. There wouldn't be much detail left. I've engraved the USMC emblem (eagle, globe, and anchor) as small as 1 inch square (at 500dpi) and even then the text is not really readable.

I wish I could give you good news - maybe one of the other engravers here can do better.

Regards,
Eric
