I have used a microcrystalline wax (Renaissance equivalent) a few times on my pens, after using an automotive polish, and then buffing with white diamond. Each time the finish (Gluboost) seemed to be less shiny than before the wax. My method was to apply the wax while the blank was spinning on the lathe, and then buff immediately with a piece of blue shop towel. Is my method flawed? Should I be buffing it with a buffing wheel? What's your method, if you use the wax? TIA.

I both apply the wax and buff it off-lathe. I use just enough that there's a slight haze on the surface, leave it five minutes, and buff it off with a clean piece of T-shirt material.

I noticed mine was no longer dulling my CA finish when I a) started using less of it, and b) started giving it it several minutes between application and removal. I think it needs some time to "dry" after application before you buff it off, or else you're just smearing it around. Especially if you have too much on there. It takes less than you'd think.
