HI

Its seems I have a new problem, which is proably an old problem for some of you. I have used the micro mesh and super fine paper before and nevr had this problem.

I now discolor the wood when I get to the super fine paper or mesh it leaves a dark streak, this is now happening when I use my mesh, which is reuable or from my tear off roll.

What I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Found my answer under grey stuff on pen, I dont know how I missed it before. I am either touching the bushings, or leaving the paper there to long. I am going to try the Norton 3x in the finer paper and see how it works.

Thank anyway
Bob

Bob, Regardless of which brand or type of sanding media you use, if you keep sanding the bushings you will keep getting metal dust in the wood grain.

Try getting a 60 degree dead center and a 60 degree live center, placing the blank between them after you have turned down to the bushing level and see how well your sanding goes.

When I switched over to this process, my blank diameter accuracy as far as mating up with the attaching kit parts greatly improved.

Here is what I am talking about...

Hi
Sanding and turning between centers is somthing I want to try anyway. It's just I have not got a roundtuit, as soon as I get one of those I am going to get a 60 degree dead center and go for it.

George those photos are an excellent reference tool.
Great job.

One thing that people often neglect talking about when turning between centers is tool rests. Be sure to have one arounf 4" as you will have problems getting it close with a 6" tool rest.

Bob, You can make a roundtuit in 1 minute on your lathe, so get cracking!:D

Mike, I agree with the tool rests. Buying a set of these babies was among the first purchases I made after buying the lathe. I have one post for each lathe and the various length rests just screw on and are useable on both lathes.
