Does anyone know if Michael's sells the pearl-ex pigment powders? I have a 20% off coupon of entire purchase, so I was thinking of going over there on my lunch today and pickup a couple jars. Thanks in advance! I looked on their website, but couldn't find anything. If they don't, what would be an alternative? Oil paints?

yup...they have it. Look around the scrapbooking isles. I know they sell the sets with multiple colors, not 100% on single containers. I don't have one in my area, only hobby lobby.

The Michaels around here NY area don't carry any powders at all in the store and when I was there last week they didn't even know what I was talking about.

They didn't know what I was talking about at the local Michaels here either but my wife found it in another section. They had both Series #1 & #2. A little pricey but I got them both.

They don't seem to have it here in western Canada either. I went there looking for water slide decals once and I got the look.:confused::confused:.

Most of the people working at Michaels don't know what they have. I have asked for things several times at different Michaels and they say they don't have it. I can usually find what I'm looking for if I walk down enough isles. Michaels carries the pearl ex singles normally in the modeling section (alumilite is sometimes on same isle). The multipacks are normally with the stamping/scrapbooking isle. Pigment dyes are with the soap making stuff.

As far as another alternative you can use testers paint. It will give a flat color by itself, but you can get a white pearl casting craft dye to give it a pearly spark.

However, since your nasty little bug bite, I'd just start ordering from coastal scents, admit your problem and move on. lol

The one thing I have learned when it comes to Michaels and Hobby Lobby - just look, don't bother asking. I asked them where their casting resin stuff was - got the deer in headlights look "What does it do?" "Uh - it seals things in a solid acrylic" "I am not sure if we carry that" "K - I will look on my own". Third aisle in whatya know.

Hobby lobby is the same way when I was asking them about Alumalite - yea - they had no clue either.

Lorbay, If you are in the Vancouver area try Opus Framing and Art Supplies for Peal Ex Pigment. If you are not in Vancouver they have online store.

As for decals try model stores. Burnaby Hobbies and Imperial Hobbies has testor decals. I just picked some up last night.

Thanks, there is a store 2 blocks from where I work.

Wouldn't doubt that they didn't know what you wanted, but I've picked up
the PearlEx powders in NY before. Usually they're with the embossing
powders. The employees might know them as 'Jacquard' powders. Some
stores keep them by the rubber stamp stuff. Doesn't seem to be a standard
place for them as different stores will put them in other places.

By me they sell both 12 piece sets in the embossing section of the store

They have them with the rubber stamps here also. They are in the series packs. There is some other powders called "reflections" that work also.

Yeah took me forever to find the oil paints because I was not about to spend $25.99 on that pearl-ex pack. There wasn't anyone around to ask because they had 1 person on the register. They had oil paints in the main isle on a display down by the wood crafts. Only cost $12.99 then I had 20% off. They then gave me a 40% off coupon at checkout for a single purchase good starting Sunday. I might be heading back and buying the pearl-ex pack at that price. I already used the oil paints and made a casting last night. lol

they carry it here I picked some up today. Not cheap though you definitely want one of the 50% coupons. I asked and the clerk I was dealing with when looking for them gave me one.

I just picked up the kit at Michaels today and blanks are setting up right now

It was down the Stamp aisle - I had a 40% off coupon from when I shopped there last week so that is what I used.

Let me just say so far I am happy with the results, but that was in liquid form - we will see how they turn out. I have 3 molds setting up right now. I did one mold of just the pearl-ex pigments - the rosetta, the gold and the silver. We will see how that turns out - I did throw some gold paint in too.

Another mold is purple paint with the red/blue pearl-ex - I can't wait to see how that turns out!

Then I also made a mold of just blue paint with the pearl. I am mostly excited for the purple mold

Okay - first blank - the blue one. I am calling this blue metallic

Edit:

Okay - the mold with just the Pearl-Ex with a little gold paint is completed. Looks cool on the outside - inside should be pretty nice

Edit:

Turned the blue - it is on a magnetic gun metal vertex - I am amazed! I don't think the purple one turned out too well

FYI: Michael's coupons are readily availble online anytime you want them. The Michael's close to me is about an hour away and before I go I search online for Michael's 40% off coupons and I always find them.

Again, you can find them anytime you want them online, then print them out. Take at least a couple with you. They are for a single item purchase but you can buy one item take it out to you car/truck, then go back in for another purchase and, again use a 40% off coupon.

Your casting supplies are a lot cheaper when you buy in the smaller containers from Michael's.
I don't work there, just shop there.
Tim.

One thing about the Michaels in the Columbus and surrounding area is they don't mind multiple coupon use but more than a few stores said you can't use say your credit / debit card then do another sale that same day with another coupon. Different cards or cash same day no problem. It is something tied into there system that detects it. DAMHIKT :)

Just out of curiosity, is embossing powder the same as mica powder? I went to the local Michaels store and found embossing powder but no mica powder. Are they one of the same or different? Will embossing powder work? Thanks

I used some pink embossing powder (for breast cancer pens). It seemed to work okay.

Dharma Trading company does have a better price. I use embossing powder for casting and also for filling in voids or cracks in pieces of work. It mixes easily with CA and fills nicely.

I went to Michaels the other day to hunt for Pearl Ex and was amazed by the price...scared is more like it. Ebay has much better prices

Prices there on everything are outrageous I only buy there if I need it today and I have a 50% off coupon. I was in there on the weekend and this one jumped out at me as I walked by. Foam paintbrushes big display laying loose and big sign as if this was a deal $2.99 each. Identical foam brushes at my local home hardware, bag of 10 for $4.97.
