I have found two excellent links for metal finishing information and have used this information to finish Copper. After a few days of learning I am now able to consistently put a mirror finish on soft metals.

I have found that a wood rasp is a suitable tool for renewing a fabric buffing wheel and can be used in place of the buffing rakes I have seen advertised. (but did not see at Harbor Freight or the local hardware store) You will want to get a really good grip on the rasp and ensure that if it does get away from you it does no harm.

Here are the urls

I don't know if it works as well as a rasp or rake, but I use a leftover cheap steel spindle gouge to fuzz up my buffing wheel. Over time it gets rounded over and needs a little touchup on the grinder.
