Amen! and Amen!

One memory of looong ago. As a young kid, I remember the desk that my dad had with a thick glass top. Under the glass were quite a few paper items including photos and short newspaper items. I couldn't read at the time I remember, but after the first grade, I could. Two memories now were of two of dad's friends killed in action in Europe from WWII. One of them was the brother of a man who lived across the street from our church. My dad told the story behind his death. It seems like every time I saw the man from across the street of our church, I thought of his brother and my dad's friendship to him. More than anything else, at an early age, that molded my concept of honoring those in service and holding in memory of those who gave their lives.

We now live on a corner lot in which one of the streets is named after a school mate who was killed in action in Viet Nam. His younger brother married a cousin of mine.

Yes, I do remember and pass these memories on to my kids.

I'm grateful for all that gave their lives for the freedom we take for granted today. As we are an international group here, let me say that I feel especially indebted to the "greatest generation" in all of the allied countries that gave their all for our freedom.

I usually make some sort of photoshop image to share on various holidays. I just finished this one, but did not create the background images used here. Feel free to use it as you wish.

I was a hospice volunteer for 3 years. During that time, one of my "patients" was a WW2 bomber pilot (later became a dentist). I ask him, "Did you you ever think when you were taking-off that you weren't coming back?". He sadly answered, "Everytime."

Very few today realize the toll war takes on these men and women, including their familes, friends and love ones. Many come back, but are never really "home". Everything changes for everyone. It is a very solemn day.
