After years of thinking about this, I'm finally establishing a couple ways for us to remember our departed members.

I've created a usergroup called "In Memoriam" into which I will move a departed members account. This will put a special banner under their name.

You can see the people already in that usergroup by clicking on that group on the members tab. I'm working on adding others.

I'm also creating a new forum (not done yet) into which we can move the tribute threads that usually appear when a member departs. In that forum I'll also maintain a list of our dear departed members.

I need your help. Please post in this thread the name and/or member name of our members who have passed on, if you don't see someone has already posted it. If you have a link to the obituary and date of death, that would help.

There was a "Randy" who always typed in teal color. We were working on the bash together years ago.
I located his obit when I could not make contact with him. Sorry, that's the extent of memory, currently.
I will add if it hits me this weekend!!

Was that Tom Mullane? I can't find any obit
I could be wrong but it seems like Tom Mulane and Old Griz were not the same person. I did email Tom and we corresponded a couple of times when I was in Japan as he was looking for some wood from there, which I sent to him.

Profile.

I'll check his threads if any appropriate info.

I believe he died in 2008 - several years before I joined IAP, but I've heard about him often & admire his work

Finally we will have a place to remember the members that have graced these pages. I know this was brought up a few times over the years but Jeff once again you are expanding what this site is all about, FAMILY. Thank you. Being we can add to these names I am sure if we look back through the old threads we can find some names that have past on.

Smitty has to be one. Just saw the list and see he was added. The member who had the pen store. Him and his wife. Old age is going to set in here for sure because the names do not come readily quickly any more. :) We used to play a game in my local called name in an envelope. It was a dead or alive game. We would say a name from the past and people would have to think if they were dead or alive. Sometimes we got stumped. Had to do research.

Now what is the criteria? It had to be mentioned here?

There are a bunch of names of that over the years were great contributers to this site but then disappeared and the problem is we do not know if they are still alive or not. I do not want to start naming names. Maybe from here on out if we know a member who has past to make that announcement and we can continue the list with accuracy.

It would be good to get confirmation before I add someone to the list. A link to an obit or a date of death would be helpful.

I agree, we should strive for 100% accuracy.
So far I have only added people for whom I can find an obituary or I otherwise am 100% certain they're gone.

I really like the In Memoriam badge under the names as you find older posts. I think it makes one stop and think and also pay more attention to what this person said not only in that thread but also maybe do a further search as to what he did throughout the site.

This thread and these thoughts brings up another point to have a photo gallery under your name in your profile page. It is not hard to set up (maybe somewhere we can get a page that explains many of those little nuances that this site has to offer) I know Jeff started a thread on this somewhere not long ago. But when someone clicks on the name the profile page will come up with the media number and that leads them to their album. Just another thought. If you post a photo in SOYP it is easy to get to the album too.
