G'day!
So, i have spent the last 4 days with my great friend Peter Hay. Peter and I have spoken many many times on the telephone, sometimes for hours, talking about our passion for timber and pens, amongst alot of other topics. We have bonded like very old and familiar mates in this short time of knowing each other. Peter drove 700 kilometres each way just to spend some time with me and my family, which was an absolute honour and I was truly humbled. Peter is 86 years young and one of the most motivated, enthusiastic, kind and very special people in my life. A true blessing.
Peter gave me many gifts, among which a magnificent hand made huon pine 'shack on a hill, sitting on a huon pine burl. The detail is just incredible. An elderly woodworker in Tasmania made it many years ago, named Woof.
There were many books, burls, skins and blanks to last me a lifetime also, which I am forever thankful.
This community has been such a wonderful thing for me. I have met so many kind and beautiful people. Thanks for reading, I've attached a few pics. My family just love him, especially my little one!! Whoosh!!!

How nice for you to get to know Peter !! . I lived in Oz for 10 years back in the 70's but I wasn't into pens at the time and didn't have time for anything other than my job and family. . But I would have loved to get to know Peter. . He is a very special person indeed.

Thanks for posting this, and especially for the pics ..... you have years of memories right there !!!

I'm most pleased that you guys had the opportunity to meet in person, I wish I could...!

I have great respect and admiration for Peter his personality and love for life, he reached so far a very respectable age and I hope he lives for a lot longer and shares his passion for working with wood and sharing his work with us all.

I can also see Peter is very generous sharing many of his treasures with you and from what the last pic shows us, it seems your little girl just got a new grampa, beautiful pic.

Thank you for sharing your time with Peter and his goodies...! 👍

Cheers
George

Peter has been my friend and mentor for quite a while. We speak on the phone often and I really enjoy the time I get to spend with him that way. He is a VERY talented turner; his pens are very beautiful and he has beautiful timber, the beauty of which are really enhanced by his turning.
This hobby/pastime/occupation has so many great people associated with it. My thanks to Peter and all others who make it so.
