I would just like to thank Michael (MDWine) for the lathe and saw yesterday. I left my house 9 AM got to outside DC a little after noon. We spent 2 and a half hours breaking down the lathe, and Radial Arm saw down. A friend of mine came and needed the Saw and I got the lathe. Man it is a beast. We left there around 2:30 and started heading home. We got back a little after 6 and by 7, I was turning the lathe on.

My buddy had his 13 year old son go with us, he was the muscles. He kept asking how the stuff worked so, he turned, sanded and friction polished something.

A couple side notes, in the cellar there was a candle lantern with a stand. My mother in law loves them. My wife and I have gotten 2 for her over the last couple years. Well Michael said go ahead and have it. I brought it home and my MIL was here. So I set it up for her, and I think that was the first hug she had given me since Kelly and I got married 12 years ago.

Another funny thing happened on the way back. Will (my buddies son) and I were sitting at the table of Steak n Shake, while Billy (my buddy) went in the rest room. The waitress came up and said, "Do you all know what you want to drink, and know what MOM wants?" Without thinking I said, "Actually it's DAD." I get the eyes wide open look with an "Oh." response, and realize how it sounded. By this time Billy is walking up to the table, and I said "She wants to know what you want to drink dear" hoping he wouldn't notice. He heard it and started laughing. And of course I have to share that story. My wife was tearing up laughing so hard when I told her.

Ed,
I am glad you got the lathe and was able to help your friend with the saw. Also good you were able to introduce the teen to turning"

And your restaurant story is the icing on the cake!

Happy turning!

Way to go, now we have our hobby in safe, young hands.

Dave.

I'm really happy that the equipment went to a good home.

As I told Ed, equipment like that old Rockwell has a soul IMHO, it needs to be cared for and loved. Tip a beverage to Carl, our benefactor, and a fellow woodworker in every respect. I can't tell you how many boxes of brand new stuff we found, some of it duplicates... demonstrating that I am not the only one to buy neat stuff... sometimes twice! Ha!

Happy turning Ed, and get Will over there an bust out a bunch of slimlines!

(and after all this, I may turn a thing or two myself!!)
