I finished a piece of BOW the normal way, sand, CA, MM to 12,000, and the finish looks great. However, I would like to have a matte or dull finish and not the bright shiny finish that you get when you polish with all the MM. I thought about hitting it with some 0000 steel wool, but I'm a little hesitant to do that.
Can anybody give me a suggestion on how to achieve this finish without screwing it up?

Thanks,

Steel wool will work. I've also used the 1500 MM to dull the finish with good results. With the MM, you can very easily redo the whole set to make it shiny again, if you don't like the matte-look.

When I use a CA finish, I sand between CA coats with the 1.800 (green) MM pad. I also sand (still with the green MM pad) 24 hours after the CA process.
