We're getting ready for our first market this coming Saturday... looks like it will be a nice day for it according to the weather guessers... Been in the shop pretty steady trying to get a few things ready and also get ready for the local art guild show this same weekend... Here are a few things I've finished up to get ready for the market... The first & second and fifth & sixth are walnut from a lady who came by my booth last fall... when I picked up the wood, the tree had been growing next to their neighbor's horse lot... when I turned the wood, you could smell the horse lot in the wood... it's strange to turn walnut that smells like horse dookey.
the square bowl is from some spalted hackberry I've had laying about... the bowl portion was a little punkier than I would have liked, but still did okay. The lid was an after thought and I couldn't find wood that matched better... maybe will run across some later and can re-make the lid... again... this one is the second one I've made for the bowl... the first just didn't do anything for the bowl.
The fifth picture on top is bradford pear... it doesn't usually get quite so red, but I like how it turned out... the bowl is about 9 1/2 inches diameter and finished with lots of polyurethane over a coating of Dr. Woodshop's walnut oil and Carnuba finish... The last bowl is spalted white oak... it's about 8 inches diameter and when completely finished will have multiple coats of poly also... in this picture it only has 2 coats and still has the tenon for the chuck on the bottom.
The lamp is Poplar and has the glass font buried inside the turning. The wine glasses are purple heart to complement the purple glass.
