I'm a relative newbie at turning as I started with pens earlier this summer.
A few weeks back I came across a fellow who had a bunch of maple burl sitting in his back yard that I agreed to take off his hands - it was horribly cluttering up his place... When I asked what he wanted for payment, he said he wanted a bowl out of one of the pieces. Sweet deal!
After letting the burls dry out (they were sitting in the rain) I got around to turning a bowl (it's only my third one) and I wanted to add a pen from the same burl to give back to him. The bowl still needs some finer sanding and oiling yet and once that's done they'll be ready for delivery.
The pen is finished with BLO/CA and the bowl just MM to 12,000 and some Danish oil.
Comments are most welcome!
