 Hello, I'm new and would like to introduce myself. My name is Jack Dickson owner of Manzanita Burlwood. I supply quality Manzanita burls, blanks and wood online to woodturners and crafters. I offer Manzanita burl pen blanks through my website at: http://manzanitaburl.com I look forward to learning more about pen turning and getting to know some of you. Lets talk about Manzanita burl!

Welcome Jack. Glad to have you here and and also have more selections of wood. If I were back home (USA), I would certainly be checking the burls out more closely. In 14 months, I will be!

You didn't mention if you turned pens or not but just in case I do have some information for our site and pen turning:

The first link below is a PDF file of a basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. While confusing to new turners, it sure helps abbreviate a lot of repetitive typing.

Above Link Corrected!

Welcome Jack. There are several Clear Creeks in Ca, which one is yours? I'm guessing the one in Humboldt county since you sell Manznita wood.

Welcome Jack.

And yes Cav you were right, the tradition was the 3rd post but your ineligible since your management. However the bylaw then states that posts 4-9 get sample pen blanks. If your nice tho, I might share.

Jack,

Welcome to the IAP. We have a tradition here that whoever is the third person to welcome you aboard is given a manzanita burl.:biggrin:

And, he in turn sends up to his friend in Canada (me:biggrin:). Great tradition to follow. Thanks as always, Cav.

A hardy welcome to Jack.

Welcome Jack. Someone gave me a small manzanita burl. I got a few beautiful pens out of it. It wasn't easy, though. But well worth it. Glad to have you here.
