A Custom Built Urushi Fountain Pen with a "Tame Tsugaru Nuri"
"Tsugaru Nuri" is made by using a spatula with holes applying sticky pigmented Urushi randomly on the surface.
Then, after drying, a thin layer of urushi is brushed on and sprinkled with fine gold powder. After drying 8 to 9 layers of transparent lacquer are applied, then ground and polished. Now another 2 or three layers of transparent Urushi is applied and ghround, just to leave a thin "membrane" over the original surface to let the gold shine through.
Best regards,
Martin
