A "Shibui" Type ebonite pen with a urushi lacquer I call "Namban-Kawari-Nuri".
Kawarinuri is the term for "experimental Lacquer".
Namban = Southern Barbarian, designs influenced by or made for foreign market. Many thin rings of urushi are applied with a brush and sprinkled with a wide range of metal, eggshell, mother of perl and dry lacquer powder. After applying many layers of transparent lacquer the surface is ground flat and polished.

With the time the transparent lacquer will become more transparent and the underlaying colors will appear stronger and stronger

Martin the pen is great.

I'm curious about the Urushi getting lighter in time. Does that happen when kept in the light or when kept in the dark too? Thanks.

Thank you very much.
Urushi is let's say 98% cured when polished but over the years it cures completely and reaches a haardness of glass Mohs scale 4 and it becomes more transparent. It is a chemical reaction and if it is kept in daark or light does not affect this process
