A Miyabi Bô Type Medium Size Pen with urushi lacquer. "Nama Ha Suri Nuri" is a technique in which leafs of plants are painted with strongly pigmented urushi and pressed on urushi lacquer ground to leave the leaf's pattern. Momiji-Maki-e is one version where "Momiji" Japanese Maple leafs are used. The remaining urushi is sprinkled with various metal powders, in this case gold, platinum and copper. Some are left pure red, yellow and orange urushi.

All the best,

Martin

Gorgeous work! Martin, I like ALL of your work, but that pen makes me think so much of the Japan I knew. We had a momiji tree in our yard in Tokyo, in Osaka and in Toyota-shi.

Natsukashii! Belongs in an art museum!
