Anyone replace the bearings in thiers yet? Is it doable?

My lathe was making a vibration noise and traced it down to the mandrel saver bearing. Feels somewhat tight, but its making things OOR and you can see the OOR on slow speed. Put my 60' back on, vibration sound and OOR gone. Hated going back to the kurled nut.

Had mine since they first started making them, but it never got much use until a month ago.

Think I will try to replace the bearing first before buying another.. but wanted to see if anyone did it yet.

Thanks

I have one that's doing the same thing and in looking at it, there is no reason that it can't be replaced. the number that you'll need to get the right size is 6002RS and then take a 5/16 punch and drive the end off. And hopefully the bearing stays on the taper so all you'll need then is a puller and press the new one in using your vise. But if the bearing comes off the taper and stays in the nose. you'll need an inturnal puller or something to put inside to cover the bearing hole and take a 1/4 inch punch through the mandrel hole and drive the bearing out. Now once you get it out, just press it back together with the new bearing in your vise. Or just spend another 17.00 for a new one. For the bearing, check your local Ace Hardware store, they just might have one, as long as it is the correct number and its a sealed bearing.
