I'm making whistles from antler points. and having trouble getting them consistent. I get one right with a smooth clear tone and then next two are raspy, hard to blow, or just not making a peep at all. Can somebody with more experience with whistle making tell me what I need to know for getting them to make a consistent smooth clear sound? I'm using a 3/16 bit and plugging the blow hole about 50%. Drill hole depth is consistent, about 1.75 inches.
Some problems I think might be going on:
1. Air leaking around the bottom of the plug
2. Inconsistent depth for the saw cuts
3. Sometimes the antler tips are porous (although I've been successful with porous antler and sometimes it fails)
