Have turned a few of this same model. One of my favorite pens to turn. Majestic Squire ballpoint from PSI. Using Schmidt 9000M Easy Flow refill. They write much better than refills provided with the kit, or the Parker.

I really like that blank. I haven't turned Kirinite yet… does it turn similar to acrylic acetate or is it harder and more brittle like inlace?

It's basically a variation of acrylic. I find it easier to turn than acrylic acetate. It's somewhat less brittle.
I like to use a negative rake carbide chisel to get all synthetic and harder woods started. Then I switch to a round tip carbide. HSS will work fine if it's very sharp but I've gotten to where I use carbide almost exclusively.
