Hi folks, I'm trying to find out if the long plastic sleeve on majestic pens in the cap serves any real purpose? I know the threads are in there at the base, but besides that, is all of that plastic really needed? Thanks in advance.

Its purpose is to make it nearly impossible to disassemble the cap should you have to. DAMHIKT
I like Burlman's answer but I believe the reason is to keep the nib straighter as the cap is put on, thus reducing the risk of cross threading.
