I purchased 2 Majestic Jr. pen kits from Penn State. I do all my drilling on the lathe and have never had any problems with fit issues before. When turning acrylics I always keep my bit cool and take my time. I don't normally make these kits and when drilling for the lower tubes with a 10.5mm bit as suggested the tubes have too much play when inseting them in the two different blanks. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to use these blanks now because I think there is too much play. Should I try a smaller bit? Any thoughts?

I use a drill press, not the lathe.
The suggested bit size is just a guide. A cheap 115 piece drill bit set (fractional, number, and letter AND a separate metric set) is a good investment. Look in the Library for a drill size chart. Many are available on the internet too!http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/conversions.pdf

Acrylic blanks tend to drill slightly larger than wood blanks. I start undersized, then drill larger until the tube fits. I then write down the drill size on the instruction sheet and it goes into a loose leaf binder. I measure tube length, outside, and inside diameter, and write those figures down with any assembly instructions I think are needed.

Many acrylic blanks do drill bigger, in my experience. When that happens, I simply substitute 2 part epoxy for CA when I glue the tube, and I have had good results with that. Hope it helps.
