He was born around 385 AD around the area of South west Scotland or North West England in a fairly wealthy family. His father was a Church deacon as was his Grandfather. When the romans began to retreat from Britain he, at age 16, was captured by Irish pirates and sold into slavery to tend sheep on Slemish Mountain.
After 6 years he escaped and trained for the priesthood in France, took the name Patricius, then returned to Ireland to evangelize the pagan Irish with great success.
He died around 17th March 461 and is supposedly buried about 10 miles from my house.
Half the world celebrates his life on 17th March.
