I was taking a break from doing nothing, all settled back to watch NCIS when there was a huge pounding on the front door. Then it came again real quickly. When I answer, my neighbor is there telling me, "Your camper is on fire!" Sure enough the orange fingers of death are jumping out the roof over the fridge. The neighbor is calling 911, I grab a water hose which has been unhooked since last fall and drained, then head up on the roof to put water on the fire. Cooled it off a bit, came down and went inside to knock the remaining fire down a bit trying to hold it till the real firefighters arrived. Boy, have things improved since I was last in the department. No more booster lines and they even have thermal imaging equipment to locate all hot spots to reduce the chance of a rekindle. Three trucks, twenty or so men, the camper is still on its own wheels and the fire damage is located in the kitchen area, walls and ceiling, water throughout the living room/kitchen area.

By saying how lucky we are, I mean it. Had not the neighbor noticed the fire at the exact moment and gone on home, the fire would not have been spotted until much too late. The camper would have been totally engulfed, a couple of our crs would have been at least severly damaged and the house most likely would have been burned also as the camper sits some 15 feet from the house. Yes I AM THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE TONIGHT!!! All are alive and still enjoying a bout of cold, but alive and breathing. God bless us all, each and every one. Be thankful for what He does for you and the gifts He places in your basket.

Glad the damage was contained and that you and your family are safe. Yes, you are really lucky. Buy that neighbor dinner and give him a great big thank you for being so thoughtful.

Here in New Zealand my work mates would say since you've been so 'lucky' today is the day to buy a lottery ticket. :-)
Glad you and yours are safe!

" I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had not...." You are a very special person ..... you don't need to meet anyone to know how blessed you and your family are. I am very glad you all are safe. Doc:smile:

Thank you everyone for the supportive responses. As for the attitude, that is an evolved thing. When I was younger, to have a good day, everything had to be just near perfect, as I aged, my demands became more realistic. Now a good dy is wking up and getting a breath of air, not necessarly good air, just air. A great day, on the other hand is waking up, getting a breath of GOOD air and seeing the Green side of the grass. Today is a GREAT DAY! May God bless us each and hold us close.

On a brighter note Insurance will probably total the whole thing. Water damage and smoke damage to those is impossible to get rid of, and often not worth the extra money to the insurance. If so you just might get a new camper out of the deal.

Glad all is good.
