Finally had a chance to turn with my new used Jet 1014 and I have to say it is quite a different experience than turning with my Shopsmith. I am not sure why, but it seems way smoother, way easier, and way quieter. I felt like I turned faster and easier as well. Maybe it is all just wishful thinking.
I did actually just use it on top of my bench, which puts it about elbow height, and I think that is a bit too high for me. I might get used to it, but it seems like I have more control if it is a bit lower on my body. I have to build something to stand on temporarily to try it out, and if that works, I have a system in mind that will let me swivel the lathe down under my bench for storage.
