Ranger, our blue merle Shelty, went to a better place today. :frown: He had been fighting liver failure and cancer for the last few months. He always managed to lay down in the shop in the saw dust and that was always a challenge to brush out of his long coat. He was a great dog and will be missed. Changed my avatar for him for a while.

Sure sorry - I think I know how you feel. I had a couple of dogs that didn't know they were dogs. I'm not sure I did. HWH

All of us who have lost the most unselfish loving friends one can have are sharing your grief today. Bless you and always hold him in your memory.

I'm really sorry, John. PenDawg1 is laying right here beside me in the shop. She gets so excited about "going to the shop". I really dread "that day".

Sorry to hear of your loss. Get another dog ASAP and you'll feel a lot better. That's my plan when I lose my golden retriever.

Beautiful dog. I'm sorry for your loss.
I know the feeling, but these type of posts always bring back the good memories of the one I lost. The memories will stay with you forever.

[SIZE=+1]Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Real sorry to hear that John. A guy sure can get used to a loving dog. It will take a while for that hole in your heart to heal. Take care!

Sorry to hear that news John, I agree with others who said get another dog soon, life is not the same without one, keep your chin up my friend!

Sorry to hear about your loss John. My friend is about to lose little best buddie and is already looking around for a puppy to keep his buddie happy in his final days and has the start of a new relationship with a new best buddie. I hope that it works for him, I would be kinda sad even having a new buddy. But whatever helps. Best of luck.

john sounds like you were blessed with ranger. dogs are such a wonderful gift. smile in that he will be waiting for you when that days comes and of course with a little bit of saw dust in his beautiful coat ;)

Sorry for your loss my friend. I there with you! I had to put my 13+ year old Greyhound down, the worst thing I've ever had to do, this spring.

Sorry for your loss, I also agree about getting another one as soon as you are ready. It does not fix the loss, but it is finding a new friend. and that alone is worth it.

John,
It really must be an aweful thing...I have never been through it yet, but have an 8 year old Golden. I dread that day. IMHO dogs just want to be your friend and companion...and maybe a treat....they ask for very little in return. As you can tell by the number of responses your "pen friends" are all thinking about you. Keep going "forward" my friend...

My condolences.

My own 4 footed shop friend is my 10 year old all-black cat K-DOS (for KC2, in honor of his 19 year old predecessor KC, who passed away in 2001).

The critters sure do steal our hearts, don't they?
