This is my first post although I've been lurking in the forums for several months now. You seem like a great bunch of guys that truly care about and help each other.
I need a bit of help this time finding a video that I saw on the web, most likely You Tube. I've seen it within the last few months I think and it lathe related. It's a video of a guy turning captive rings. This particular video demonstrates turning a small cone shape spindle with 5 or 6 captive rings of different sizes. Seems to me it was then used on a key chain. It's possible he was making a baby rattle also. I'm thinking the turner may have had more than one lathe in the video also.
If anyone has knowledge of this video or something close would you please let me know. Thanks for the help
Dale

:smile: Dale: I don't know if this is the exact video you are looking for. It is on You tube and comes from The Woodworkers Guild of America and runs 6 minutes. The turner shows you how to make a captive ring on a spindle. He also teases you with a captive ring he turned on a wooden pen. I haven't checked the site compleatly yet, but they seem to have quite a few videos. The website is wwgoa. Jim S.

Thanks Jim for the suggestion. That's a good video but not the one I'm looking for. As best as I remember the video I'm looking for is shot in a cluttered garage by a retired gentleman. I've only been turning seriously for less than a year making mostly small items like pens and boxes. This past weekend I did turn a pen with a captive ring that turned out pretty well.

Maybe it was Capt. Eddie Castelin (Capt Eddie) on YouTube, he has a number of videos.

Hope this helps......

Here's another video......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-tXOqLlvJo

Not Captain Eddie, I've seen all his. I'm usually good at finding things like this on the net but this one has me stumped. Maybe the video was taken down.

Thanks Guys for your efforts in helping me find the video. I have probably spent 4 or 5 hours looking for this thing and just yesterday decided to give up and figure it was gone.

I had to give up to find it.

I was surfing You Tube today and there it was in the side pane. The reason I couldn't find it was the description doesn't match the video very well.

Thanks again and here is the link if you're interested in watching this guy. He's pretty good.

Ok. That is going on the to do list. I was think way to hard how to do something like this. Now to find some metal and make me some more tools.

I got a good laugh when he pulled out his "skew" for the vase:biggrin:

Thanks for sharing

If you really want a laugh, chase back through the series to episode 2 where he uses a axe as a skew.

I just got finished watching the series and can't stop grinnin' from his variations of tools.:biggrin::biggrin: He has accomplished his goal. My head is spinning with ideas now. Now to find some flea markets.

:eek: Dale; Glad you found the video you were looking for. Even happier you shared it with the rest of us. I couldn't beleive he turned that many rings in that little time on such a small scale!! If the mind can think it, the hands can do it. Thank you again!! Jim S
