Anyone know a good source to pick up some cherry burls? I need to make a few pens and bottle stoppers for a client and need to pick them up pretty quickly.
Do you have any cherry orchards near you? They keep these trees trimmed down to make picking easier, causing them to burl. There are usualy dead trees in most orchards or large branches that have broken off. Also you might try a saw mill or lumber yard that offers cherry wood. They throw the burls on a pile and sell them real cheap, or give them away. Try tree trimming companys in your area or waste yards where people dump there yard waste. Many a good find has come from this sorce. An arborest may also have some burls in there piles of wood. Don't rule out a Sand Cherry tree. I just cut one down last week in my yard. It had several nice burls and some great crotch wood in it. Hope that keeps you busy for a while. Jim S
