Anyone have any thoughts on a decent benchtop type planer? I won't be a heavy user. I have found a Ridgid TP1300 on craigslist that is like new. Anyone had any experience with this model? Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

The ridgid get pretty good write ups. My son bought one whenthey first came out and had nothing but trouble with it and after trying three of them got his money back. I think all the bugs have been worked out, they have been on the market for many years. If it is a good buy, I wouldn't be afraid of it. The Dewalt got the best marks on the last article I read about them. I have a Delta, it is adequate at best.

I have had that planer for about 4-5years and have been very happy with it. Cutters are easy to replace and available at Home Depot. I have planed 500-600 board feet of oak. Chip collecting works quite well. I have no other planer experience to compare it to, but am pleased with it.

I have the Ridgid and am please with it. It may not be a big name brand but it works well and has been very reliable. I have had mine for at least 5 yrs.

There is an INSANE deal on the Dewalt 734 going on up here in the Frozen North at the moment - dunno if there's a similar deal in the USA, but it's worth checking out.

It's an awesome planer and uses disposable blades that line up on pins so there's no fiddling with setup. That means HUGE bonus points to me.

Cheers!

Gary
