Possibly to the frustration of some and to the wonder (who the heck is this guy???) of other's here I am. Been nosing around and good to see some old timers still here. Got the itch again and wanting to see what I have missed. I've tried other pages on the interwebs but they are like going to a busy playground. This is kinda like home so I came back. Hoping this ol' dog can learn a few new tricks and possibly share a few myself.

I want to say, the MPG is coming up quickly. If you have never been, GO! If you haven't been for awhile, GO! The event has always been the premiere event with imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. My beloved and I will be there and I hope to meet up with old friends, and make new ones!

Yes some of old timers are still hanging in here. Good to see you return to the fray. Alot different vibe here now than it was back when we joined. Alot more characters back then. Jump in and lets see what you have been doing while you were away. The site has added many new features and lots more info in the library. Still a nice place to hang out and share info.

Thanks JT. I haven't done a lot since I have been gone. Been busy with life and a couple medical issues. All is well now though. We have gained a few more grandchildren 3 great-grandchildren along the way!

Was thinking about your question from about 16 years ago, after the announcement of SWAT and the AAW annual show. It was something along the lines of, "Why isn't there some kind of get together for penturners in the Midwest?"

Someone piped up with, "Why don't you start your own?" A few months later we were meeting in Urbana with more than 50 people. It was awesome!

Oh the memories!! Back then wood turning organizations only offered a token amount of time at their events to pen turning as it was only recognized as something seemingly insignificant. I was wanting something more than an hour or so, so with Terrence's help, the MPG was born, dedicated soley to penturning. I was overwhelmed with how the first event turned out, thinking only a dozen or so people would attend. To our surprise we had at least three times that and from a handful of States. All through the first MPG it was made clear that expectations were very high that we would continue the next year and here we are today. What a learning experience that in ways, changed my life. I am ever grateful for the memories and friendships that were formed through the MPG.

My hat will always be off to those who attended, donated, and in any way supported the MPG back then. I am also very grateful for those who have taken the reigns throughout the years and poured themselves into keeping the MPG going, keeping the art/craft alive with the significance it deserves. It is also great to see all the other dedicated penturning events that have come along over the years. A bucket list experience for me is to attend every penturning event around the Country in a given year. Doing so on the motorcycle would make it even more memorable but those winter dates will limit that!

On a side note, whenever I here someone say, "we need a penturning event in our area?", I offer them the challenge I was offered. "Why not start your own?" LOL!!!

It's definitely a lot quieter lately from a moderation standpoint! :)

Yes but there was MORE LIFE to this site back then. Of course back then as once mentioned it was the only game in town and the site was just being born and put on the map. To me this site is just that a site to see pens being made. With so much competition from other sites and their quick format is what todays youth want. Just look what they are doing to baseball to get more young eyes. How sad. We live in a 100MPH world these days.

baseball has lost it's heart....they 100 percent need to get rid of the new rules in the 8th inning and later to let the big moments play. It's silly!
