Any rail fans amongst us? NKP 765 visited Cleveland this weekend. My best bud is a locomotive engineer for N&S and 765 ran on their tracks for some excursions. He rode on the employees excursion on Saturday (he had a ticket for me, but I was already committed to help another friend build a deck...), and we chased it on Sunday from Rocky River to Bellevue and back while it was on the public excursion.

Here are a few pics and videos. Nice view also of NS 8102 the Pennsylvania heritage unit which is a GE ES44AC 4400hp AC traction unit.

Nice pictures Jeff. I would have begged off the deck job, that job could be around any time. Steam engine, not so often. The wife and I have been going to the Mt. Pleasant, Ia steam show for years. They have a Shay locomotive, and a traditional steam locomotive running a loop of rail all the time, pulling turn of the century cars. At noon, all the steam traction engines, around 75 machines, blow the whistles. Add to that, the stationary steam building has a boat steam whistle that must be able to be heard for 5+ miles. They also have a steam carousel, steam saw mill, steam shingle mill, steam veneer mill, well you get the message. GREATEST STEAM SHOW AROUND!!!! Yup, love live steam!

Oh yes, I love steam railroading. The glory days.

I grew up close to the NYC west shore tracks (Ulster County, NY), later lived many years in Frisco (SLSF) territory in Missouri. Now here in NE GA. Have a fine museum nearby the Southeast Railroad museum. They run live steam some weekends for visitors.

Just found a copy of the book O & W. That was the NY Ontario and Western railroad. Wifes grandfather worked as a finish carpenter and big hook operator for them. The full name of the book above is "The long life and slow death of the New York Ontario and Western Railroad." Some parts are really boring others are very interesting.

Nothing like sound of a steam whistle and all the valve gear action of a steamer.

Huge rail fan here, I know ALL the rails past, present,abandoned and forgotten for about a 100 mile radius around Tampa. I was heavy into model HO railroad. Hand laid rail, built kit steam engines like the old Bowser kits (must have been about 1,000 parts in those kits)

That engine looks like a 2-8-4.

They used to have a live steam at Perish, FL, Till the neighbors on the line complained about the soot then they had to park it. That was over 15 years ago. They still run and do a few old west shows a year. Neat stuff you get on the train it's only about 11 miles but they stage a wild west robbery really cool. On an old rickety track that rocks and rolls fun, fun, fun....

Nice! I'm a fan of steam locomotives! I haven't been to any events where they have a large steam locomotive in operation.

There's a rail museum not terribly far from where I live. A few years ago, my brother and I and two of my kids went out there for a steam day. Had a great time. They were running their 2-6-2 Prairie that day, which was pulling passenger cars.

As for big steam, they have a sad old Mikado sweltering out in the sun. According to their web site, the locomotive is still there and they want to somehow restore it (Union Pacific - UP-2564)

It looks like a 2-8-4 to me, too, but can't see it very clearly. My dad was a railroad buff and I brought home several videos of old steam engines. He built model trains, in addition to RC aircraft. He had about a dozen model engines displayed and could tell you all about them.
 
They still run a steam train to the Grand Canyon from Williams AZ. When we were spending summers up there we used to go into town in the morning just to watch it pull out. I loved the SOUND of it. CHUFF..............CHUFF...........CHUFF......CHUFF...CHUFF then it would get going good. but those first few revolutions were really something to hear. (Then of course, the train robbers would come running along side on their horses......every morning!)
 
I love all trains but steam rules.
I used to do Magic for the Orrville Railroad Historical Society Depot Days, I traded a Magic show for excursion tickets.
 
Nice to see her with a boiler full of steam. She came to Owasso Michigan a few years ago with her sister the Pere Marquette 1225 (it lives there) and the SP 4449 Daylight. and a few other steam locomotives, long drive but I don't regret dragging the wife and a couple of the younger kids to see them. Likely one of the only chances they will get to see live steam.
