Lidded boxes( I guess thats what they are called) I have a been trying to expand my turning ablilities and these are 2 of the 3 boxes like this I have turned. For those of you who have experience with these are there any tips or tricks that you are willing to share. The larger of the 2 is just over 5 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches tall. Comments and Critiques are welcome and thanks for looking. Phil

Very nice job Phil. I like the spalted box best. Spalted wood is so unique. Nice proportions on both.

The only tip I can offer is do more. Like anything we turn, the more you do the more you learn.

I have a book called "Turning Boxes with Richard Raffan"

got it at Half Price Books for $12 - it covers a ton of material.

Nicely done, and I agree with Jim, your best bet is to make more of them. Different shapes and sizes, end grain, face grain etc. You will learn a lot doing that.

no idea on the species. It was given to me along with several other pieces. I hope to turn a few more before I run out of wood large enough pieces. Alot of fun learning new skills.

Thanks for the comments
