I've had a lot of encouragement from a couple of guys in my woodturning club to put some of my pen designs in some larger turnings. This was my first attempt.

It was actually supposed to be a six sided bowl, but I had a "design opportunity" along the way :rolleyes:

The bowl is hard pear, the lid is white milkwood inlaid with veneer and the finial is black alder.

I learned a lot doing this and have got more ideas that I plan on trying.

Wow that is a beautiful lidded bowl. Great design. I just started turning lidded bowls. They are fun to make. Haven't tried one that complex yet.

Wonderful job Keith! Keep going :)

Just remember segments need to be a little thicker than plain wood (your thickness is fine and you could probably go a little thinner, but not super thin.)

Keith, I like what you did with the adaptation of this design! I think that the segmentation compliments the dome shape very well. Cool finial too!

Beautiful and striking.. A real winner!:biggrin::tongue:
