Liberty Pen Kit

Recently I pulled out some Liberty pen kits which I got quite some time ago. I noticed the top piece is different than the picture.


I've contacted McKenzie Pen Kits regarding this but haven't gotten a reply. I wonder if this is just a design change or a mechanical change due to the distance in the different in the two tops?

It looks like the new Schmidt mechanism to me.

I think the longer plunger eliminates the need for a spacer between the top of the refill and the plunger, just guessing.

Whatever it is, the mechanism works fine in the pen.
