This is what the mommy skunk told the little ones when they met the bear. Now to the subject at hand. I painted a bunch of blanks with a Q tip and acrylic paint. I did notice that the paint wasn't a uniform thickness and caused the tube to bind in some instances. Plus, the tube reamed out some excess paint. Very tiny hints of brass showed up but not enough to get bent out of shape. So I tried using spray paint. One blank was sprayed with white and the overall effect after turned was great. Got one that was painted with black to accent the black and grey swirls. It will be turned tomorrow. Nitrile gloves were the rule as it is a bit messy.

depending on the pen type in question, Exotic Blanks also sells pre cut tubes in several different colors. Pretty darn handy, especially when doing pens made from weathered planks or other not so typical media
 
I did buy some white tubes for Slimline pens but the glue still might show through. So far, the spray can paint seems to be the best. Noted I also have orange and red colors. For some reason, orange is a big color in Tennessee.🤨
 
Brass showing up strongly suggests a bur on the outside of the tube . Very critical not to have as it will always remove paint . Spray paint much preferable to Q tip application . Also , always make sure tube will fall through the blank , not have to be forced , before painting .
 
Being thinner , spray paint can run before drying , so keeping the blanks horizontal while drying can lessen the roundness of the hole . Vertical drying can lead to a bit of diameter reduction at the bottom , which then has to be cleaned up . All dependant on the amount of paint used , and the type of blank . Hybrid ones probably the most difficult because the paint runs off the resin and sticks better to the wood .
