Don't use brass as a weight when stabilizing with cactus juice and I'm guessing most any chemical used for stabilizing. I used a large brass nut to hold down some spalted maple. It worked well and did the job but after I let the blanks soak for a few hours, the CJ and some of the blanks turned a funky shade of green. Think Statue of Liberty green. Unless I decide to dye some this color which is unlikely, I've just wasted about 20OZ of CJ :frown:. Oh well, such is life.

Thanks Loren -

I've used some other metal chunks that I had around the shop, but they are all steel. I'm glad that I didn't have any spare brass.

I appreciate the heads up and will stay away from brass and cactus juice (unless I want green).

Happy turning -

Tom

I use an expanded metal sheet with 3/4" round bar as a weight. Keeps everything down and reacts with nothing.
