Less CA on some items might be better

I have started to reduce the number of coats of CA in response to customers that want some signs of real wood. A tiny bit of grain or a small depression where there is figure seems to work. Yes, for high end pens absolutely glossy smooth is my rule. For wooden razors I leave hints of reality. It feels smooth as silk and it is fully sealed for protection.

I agree theres times the feel of the wood needs to be evident to make the pen come to life.

When I have done this people say " I like this wood one " even though many others are wood too, but they feel like acrylic resin.

I use only thin CA on wood pens. It gives the protection of CA without showing a finish on the surface. My last step is sand to about 1000 grit and then use 0000 steel wool to give the pen a nice satin finish. It looks like just wood.

Gloss sells, but some customers want to see and feel the wood.
