I haven't been doing much woodturning lately, but have access to a machine shop at work, so I dusted off my decade-long neglected machining skills and made a lightsaber for my best friend's birthday gift. I started this project in college over a decade ago and finally got to finish it. It's all aluminum.
It's a scaled up Lego minifigure's lightsaber to lifesize. I made the pommel and emitter on a cnc mill and the body on the manual lathe and mill. It took a lot of scrapped parts and redesigns for the electronics. Wiring is a new world for me, so I was pretty happy that I got it done correctly.
The board I used along with the RGB LED setup allows for color and sound changes, as well as motion detection for swings/clashes.
