I don't understand the question. Are you asking if you should buy the lathe? Get it fixed? Add a valve of some sort?

Did you mean lathe value? I think if you only want to turn pens it will work. A lathe with a 2 MT head and tail stock is more versatile. You will probably out grow this lathe quickly.

A buffing machine costs $79.95 + $7.50 shipping for a total of $87.45. For $100 this lathe will get you started turning. When you outgrow it, you could turn it into a dedicated buffing or dedicated drilling machine. From that aspect, I think it is worth the money. It the seller is quitting woodturning, it could very well come with some extras, like tools, wood blanks, etc. I say if it runs get it.

well I was just looking for something smaller and lighter than my nova to do demos on. This is not to be the main / first late. He would not budge from the price . He was getting out of turning so he gave a few extras. Some mini / pen chisels , mostly Craftsman and Taiwan , a few sets of bushings (5 or 6 ) without counting , pen mandrel and live center ,some extra brass tubes ( the 10 inch ones ) a 7 and 10 mm barrel trimmers with cutting heads, wax , some friction polish, some wood cherry , mahogany , oak and hedge-apply .
I was just looking for something light to do demos on , I don't think I did to bad. Still my nova will be the main lathe but ......... i have a unit if I need to do more demos.
Now to go play with the variable speed .........

I think you could resell it tomorrow for what you paid and KEEP the extras. NICE FIND. I know that (at least recently) replacement parts are available for this little dude too!

For doing demos, $100 is less than what you would pay for pain medication after moving that Nova around.
