While using my Delta Midi lathe the other day, the motor suddenly slowed down and stopped. I immediately turned it off and felt the motor which was very hot to the touch. I checked today and the motor and pullys turn easily so it's not the bushings. When I turn on the lathe, the motor starts okay but it only runs at about 100 RPM. Can I assume that the motor is toast and needs to be replaced? If so, this is perfect timing, I finally got my PITH glued up and blank ready to turn but now I have no lathe:( Any advise or assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advance.

If it is a variable speed ... the control board most likely has went bad or it could be the brushes like TomJ has suggested.

If it is an AC induction motor (single speed) then the starting capacitor (if it has one) might be bad.
Penn State Industries has a variable speed motor and control box for $99 if you need to replace your motor.
That is a very good deal and the motor is very strong.
