Has anyone else been getting emails from PSI about how it's not too late to get a shipment before Christmas if you select 2nd day or overnite shipping, ordering as late as Wednesday or Thurday this week?

I have to call BS on this. Merely for the fact that the order i placed on the 18th, JUST SHIPPED (late in the day) on the 22nd.

How in the world can you get an order placed on Thursday, the 23rd, when it consistantly takes them 3-4 days to process and ship an order?

Sorry for the rant, but i placed an order in what should have been enough of time to get before Christmas, as i needed a bottle stopper mandrel. Then i start getting emails about ordering up to the 23rd, and get it before Christmas. It kinda irritated me, if you know what i mean.

Chances are unlikely that USPS will get this here on Friday, as they have been slower due to volume. It also seems to me that the Philly hub for USPS is slow to process anyways.

Hate to tell you that Friday is a holiday for the Feds including the postal service normal delivery folks....

Really? From the USPS website.....

Post Offices will be open on Christmas Eve, December 24, and New Year's Eve, December 31, however, many will shorten retail lobby hours and close at 12:00 noon. Regular mail delivery will take place, however, Collection Box pickup times scheduled after noon on these days will be moved to 12:00 noon.
Customers needing service after 12:00 noon on either December 24 or December 31 should contact their local post office for information on locations of post offices that will maintain normal retail hours and lobby collections on these days. Post Office phone numbers can be obtained from our Find a Post Office tool or by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS.
Post Offices will be closed on Christmas Day, December 25, and New Year's Day, January 1. No delivery service (except for Sunday and Holiday Premium Express Mail) is scheduled for these holidays. Regular retail service and mail delivery will resume on the Mondays following the holiday, December 27 and January 3.

Because they'll be shipping UPS/Fed Ex overnight.
You pay out the butt for shipping charges, but still.

Does it really matter? If you pay the extra for next day, it will ship. Normal orders go ground, which I think says it will ship in 3 -5 business days. Sure you can get it by Christmas. But you will pay dearly for that.

I just sent a package to Florida 6.3 # package. Next Day $120. Two Day $80. Ground $22. You pay for what you get.

Merry Christmas

Here is another thing that people do not realize.

Most mail order companies do enough business to garner a discount from UPS. A typical discount will be over 30%. If they charge you posted rates, then they are using what they save on shipping to expedite your order in house. So on a $60 next day shipping charge they pocket $18 for processing your package the same day or right away if after UPS pickup. That part makes good business sense. What does not make good business sense is getting so far behind that you are taking days to process an order. If you are that busy then hire extra help or stay late until you get caught up. Then the order will go out the next business day at worse.

From what I hear they also need to hire people to answer emails. There are a lot of companies that need to do that!

YOU missed the point. If it takes them 3 days to process the order, then it wont go out in time for it to matter.

On the other hand, if they filling and shipping orders that are 2nd day and next day air ahead of others, that STINKS for the people who DIDN'T wait till the last minute.

You missed the point as well. I'm not talking about shipping time. I'm talking about how long it takes PSI to process the order and get it out the door. If you order something today by noon, and select next day, they claim you'll get it tomorrow. How is that possible if it takes them 3-4 days to process that order and get it out the door? That's what i'm getting at.

I've stopped using PSI if I care at all about when the order will arrive. When your order is received, you get the following automated email:

"This is an automated response to your online order.
Your order will be shipped as soon as possible, typically within a week of normal business operation."

You can pay extra so that from the time they actually ship it, it will arrive more quickly, but if they take the full week they are suggesting, why would you pay for 2 day shipping to get it in 9? I suppose you might pay extra so as to get it in 9 days rather than 16.

I have found in most cases that they don't take a full week, but sometimes, they certainly do.

And come to think of it, there's not really a whole lot that I'd buy from PSI that I couldn't get faster, cheaper and often higher quality than I can from some of the vendors listed here

Not too sympathetic.

I don't have too much sympathy for folks who wait until mid-December to order from a mail order house. We should be able to do a little better planning than that...we assume the risk if we wait until the last minute to put in Christmas orders. It nice to have suppliers who can give "Just in time" service and ship every order the same or next day but certainly every supplier isn't going to be able to do that.

If you order from me, it does not matter when you order it will be out the same or the next working day, but then I am not inundated with Christmas shoppers.

How dare someone be willing to pay extra in shipping to get it there the next day. Whether they waited till the last minute or not. They're willing to pay extra, so be it.

Reality says, if someone really needed it that fast where "3 days to process the order" is screwing them, then they too should have paid for the expedited shipping to get it there faster, or not waited so late to order.

Just got this off the PSI site. Ordering this close to Christmas wouldn't matter anyway. They are closed.

You would have had to get your order in prior to noon today and pay the huge fee for next day delivery.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone.

Why do so many of us continue to purchase from PSI then complain about the shipping? Their slow shipping (not all of the time) is no secret. Several other retailers sell PSI goods at a cheaper price and have excellent shipping and customer service. Other companies (non PSI resellers) sell the same or similar kits, blanks, mandrels, tools, and other pen turning supplies as PSI. I just don't understand... I really don't.
Do a good turn daily!

Some times you (me) have a customer or friend say "I need this pen for so&so's birthday/anniversary. Can you make it in time?" And that is only a couple days before the event. So you are stuck behind the 8 ball to order and have it on time.

PSI's problem has nothing to do with shipping and shiiping times; it is their time in preparing the package for shipping that is the problem. I have actually placed orders to PSI and CSUSA ON THE SAME DAY . I live in Florida and I have actually received my package from Utah BEFORE PSI even shipped my order.

They have had that problem for years!

Next day shipping wouldnt do any good if it takes them 3 day to process it. Can you understand that? If you place an order and select next day shipping, that doesnt mean PSI ships it the next day, it means when PSI finally gets around to processing your order and boxes it up, then WHEN UPS GETS IT, then UPS gets it to you the next day.

It has to do with getting ALL the things i need at that time from one place. Sadly it seems that the other vendors are always out of something or a couple somethings that i need. So, to answer your question.... I do and order somewhere else when they have all that i need in stock.

Oh, and the $30 off code helped too.

First of all, I find you to be a bit of a toolbag because of your attitude.
Do yourself a favor and drop it, people might have more sympathy for your ploy that way.

Otherwise, whenever I order from PSI (which isn't very often) I do it 2nd day. Typically they don't ship it that day, but they do ship it the following day OVERNIGHT. I've never placed an expedited shipping order from them and not had it delivered when it was supposed to be.
Others have said the exact same thing in threads here on IAP in the past.

Seems to me that maybe YOU don't get it. A few people on this thread have explained how the expedited shipping works, and that the normal customer does get bumped. Sounds to me like someone here did not do some good planning, and expects others to make up for his shortcomings other than his absolutely wonderful interactions with others. Maybe he really needs to be cured of his rectalisis.

To capncrunch, Thanks, I could have said it better, but then again, I have not heard that "toolbag" usage in a while

Actually, i do not see one single reply that states PSI expedites handling when 2nd day or next day shipping is selected. They merely state differences in travel time which is obvious. Ground is ground, next day is what it is.

As for my order, it get here when it does. I merely used it as an example to show what the handling lead time is for an order. I found it weird that they claimed you could get an order delivered on friday that was placed on Thursday. If they do indeed bump orders that way, its a sorry business practice, one that i've never seen anyone else do.

Merry Christmas

I have tried to stay out of this fray but I just can't keep myself out of it. There are many companies, probably most, that for a fee will place your rush order ahead of everyone else. The order is taken and hand picked, placed in a taxi and delivered to the airport where it has a seat reserved for it on the next plane out heading your direction.
Yes, I have had the privilege of having to order items this way even after the business was officially closed for the day or weekend. IT ANI'T CHEAP, but it gets the product needed when needed. If you are willing to pay the price, quick order shipping and delivery is available, from just about anybody.
Now that is said, let us all play nicey nice like good little boys and girls. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

I've seen that well, but its stated as such (Newegg.com being one that comes to mind), and you select to pay a fee for that priviledge at time of order. PSI has no such stated policy or option.

Anyways, i though people might wanna know the lead time if they were planning an order. Next time i won't bother.

Merry Christmas to all.
