I just got back from Mexico. Thanks to all for the trip advice - we had decided not to go, but got a deal we just couldn't refuse...
Royal service in a 5 star resort near Playa del Carmen for a steal of a deal...under 800 bucks a person from our very tiny little international airport - booked less than 12 hours before we left!
Just got back last night, and I'm exhausted, but it was WELL worth it! Felt very safe in this area of Mexico, and spent a grand total of about 50 dollars once down there...

Oh yeah - one scary moment on the flight - passed above/beside a learjet plane close enough to see the decals on the side and the individual windows...too close for my liking! (Probably farther away than it seemed, but it looked like three wing spans - and our plane lurched up just about the time I saw it)...not fun for a nervous flyer!
