My friend Larry recently turned 80 and has decided to part with his extensive collection of exotic wood. The hoard includes a variety of ebony (Mun, Gaboon, black and white) and rosewoods (cocobolo, tulipwood, Honduran), among other species. Larry used to make high-quality pipes with these exotic woods back in the day (let's call it the 1970s).

I have attached photos of the collection. It's impressive! Please note that he is looking to sell the entire lot together and does not wish to piece it out. In terms of pricing, Larry says the collection has a value of around $1,500. But he's very motivated to sell the lot to anyone who will do something creative with them. He's held onto these for 50 years and I can tell it pains him to realize his shop days are behind him. He's indicated he would accept less.

If anyone is interested in more details to make an offer, please let me know.

Best regards,

Todd in PA

What a beautiful collection. Are they all safe to smoke from I assume? Im trying to learn to make pipes next now that I'm making pens. Pipes was originally my Interest when I got a lathe along with pens but I only made pens and small cups so far and some Xmas decorations.

Safer than what goes in the pipe, which you're intentionally inhaling. 😆

I don't know anything about making pipes, but I don't think Larry was using a lathe. He had a bunch of interesting pinwheel sanders and an inflatable balloon sander to shape the wood on inside and outside curves.
