I'm new to the pen making thing but I do know how to laminate wood for making guitars. Here's the process I used. My son Andrew (9 years old) actually tunred the pen.
The Pen
I took a piece of maple and a piece of bubinga and glued them together like a sandwich. After than I cut it in 1/4 inch strips on my table saw. The maple is bigger than the bubinga so that the maple will be in the middle of the pen at the end of the process.
I then altrinated each one and cut them into 3 inch blocks.
Glued them together.
That's about it. After that I used the planer and cut the blanks on the table saw. It turned out to be enough for 4 pens.
